This past weekend, we celebrated my parents’ 75th birthdays. The party was in Pennsylvania, so we had to fly up there on Friday night. Our contribution to the menu was this nice bowl of white sangria, it was easy to throw together the night before. I like both types of sangria, but I thought this was great since it was so nice and light. My sister seemed especially fond of the fruit that had been soaking all night! 😉
The recipe is simple; start with a 5 gallon jug of cheap white wine (we used chablis), add sliced fruit (apples, orange, lemon, lime, peaches, etc), then add brandy and sugar to taste. Let that sit in the fridge overnight.
When you put the sangria in your glass, leave a little room at the top for some seltzer water, and we finished it off with some fresh raspberries.
The whole party was a hit, we had filets, chicken kabobs, and all of the other standard barbeque fare. We might have to make it an annual event! It was great to see everyone when it was warm outside, since I normally only see my immediate family at Christmas.
In other news, tomorrow night I get to eat at Crook’s Corner in Chapel Hill for the first time. The place is well known in lots of foodie circles, and I have been wanting to go there for a while to see what the fuss is about. I will let you know when I get back. Any recommendations on what to order?
